“Get in touch with your heart and follow your passion!"

Not long ago (18 months or so) I was working full time as buyer for a large international retail organization. My husband had started a law practice and life was hectic. I did not feel that I was being fully present with my family. Driving home from a store opening in NJ that had taken me away from for a week, I burst into tears and knew that I didn’t want to do ‘this’ anymore. After 11 years with the firm, I stepped down from my job.
I had a little bit of a cushion and decided to try and network my way through the company. I did receive offers for other roles but I knew they were not the right ones for me. It was important to me to tap into my passion at work – visual merchandising and making a difference in some way in the world. I knew they needed help in that area. I began to get some small projects. First one store would hire me and then another. Word got out about the work I was doing and I was asked to start teaching classes on visual merchandising which was something I’d never expected. I developed a curriculum and started teaching.
Around this time, I connected with a senior person in the organization who I’d always thought highly of. She shared with me the co-president’s vision of providing clean, green products for the home. I asked for some hours to work on this and the project began to mushroom. My sponsor really believed in what I was doing and my hours continued to increase. There were certainly a lot of bumps along the way. At the time this was happening my sponsor was looking to transition out, so there were a lot of waves to ride! I lived in the space of having no idea how things would turn out for over a year. Lots of unknown.
Having done some coaching, energy work and a New Easy Women weekend really helped. I learned how powerful I am and how I can create whatever I want. I learned to trust myself and become okay with not knowing. I also got a lot of support from my husband. What has changed for me is that I knew at a deep level that everything was going to be okay. And I embraced the ‘play’. I knew that I didn’t want to struggle anymore and decided I was going to have a good time.
I started to the touch the bigness of what I wanted to create and it didn’t scare me anymore. I chose that this is how I want to live. I am happier, calmer. It has given me the ability to be more present with my daughter Emily, to join her life, to really be with her. I am calmer with my husband David. I am not overwhelmed anymore. And I’m making more money than ever! Part-time, on my terms!
Women are so powerful!
We get what we need for support. If it weren’t for the support of the women in my life I wouldn’t be where I am. Do what you can to get in touch with your heart. If things are not working, follow your passion. Things happen the way they are supposed to. Know it will happen when it needs to happen. Don’t be attached to the results and let it take you. It may look different and then you won’t recognize that it is good and cool.
